Kiran is the Chief Technology Officer at BrightNight. Kiran is a globally recognized battery energy storage expert and brings 20 years of experience in the energy industry. Prior to joining BrightNight, Kiran led energy storage growth and market development at AES and Fluence. His prior work has included the identification of new commercial models to enable go-to-market strategy for key markets and implementing regulatory and policy solutions that create access to key customer segments. Most notably at Fluence, Kiran evangelized the “storage as transmission” idea and created the pathway to create a product based on this application and customer segment.
Kiran is a frequent speaker at industry conferences on policy issues that impact energy storage development and has testified multiple times at the U.S. Congress (House and Senate) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on various subjects, including wholesale market reforms and multiple use cases for energy storage. Kiran has previously served on the Board of Directors of the American Clean Power Association (ACP) and as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the US Energy Storage Association (ESA).
Earlier in his career, Kiran worked as a Senior Manager at ICF International, advising private sector clients on wholesale power market and transmission issues. He holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Madras, India.
