Frances Bell has over 15 years of experience in the energy industry. Frances is co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Bidirectional Energy, a virtual power plant (VPP) for residential bidirectional EV chargers. Prior to founding Bidirectional Energy, her career has been focused on the integration of distributed energy resources (DER) to grid through the development of communications protocols, technical standards development, project deployment, and product development. Her most recent roles have been leading product of the Grid Innovation group at Kevala modeling the impact of EV charging on the grid; Director of Applications Engineering at Fluence (previously AMS) deploying stationary storage and developing a VPP to bid resources into energy programs; and Power Systems Engineering at Tesla (previously SolarCity) in the Grid Engineering group piloting innovative methods to integrate solar into the grid. Prior to those roles, Frances was in the grid planning department at PG&E, so she is familiar with both utility planning needs and developing energy products to meet those needs. Frances has worked on CEC and DOE funded grants. Frances has a M.S. in Power Systems, Electrical Engineering from Tufts University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science from Smith College.
