Julia Leopold is the Associate Director of Communications for North America Renewable Energy Policy at The Nature Conservancy. She specializes in strategic communication and values-driven storytelling to advance nature-positive renewable energy projects, policies, and market standards. Before joining The Nature Conservancy in March 2023, Julia was the Director of Public Affairs at a nonprofit electric utility in Vermont, where she advocated for thoughtful state policies that promote affordable, renewable, and reliable energy. She switched to this career in energy policy communications and advocacy after serving as an on-air meteorologist for nearly a decade. Covering tornado outbreaks, hurricanes, and other extreme weather gave her firsthand insight into the impacts of climate change. This experience motivated her to shift her career toward mitigating climate change and preventing worsening weather disasters.
