Kiran Kumar currently serves as the Director of Data Science and Data Analytics at LG Energy Solution Vertech. He brings an extensive background with over 28+ years of experience in diverse fields including hardware and software design, closed-loop control algorithms, SCADA systems, and rich data analytics experiences. His expertise spans various industries such as battery energy storage, wind turbines, inverters, and automotive engine controls.
Before joining LG Energy Solution Vertech, Kiran played a pivotal role at NEC Energy Solutions (NECES). There, he led the development of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Battery Management System (BMS) software, designed key algorithms - SOC, SOH, and optimization algorithms for NMC and LFP Li-ion batteries, and oversaw the development of Energy Management System (EMS) grid controls. Throughout his career, he has played key engineering leadership roles and has supported the commissioning & operation of over 2+ gigawatt-hours (GWh) of BESS systems across the globe.
Kiran boasts a wealth of experience in reviewing commercial contracts, commissioning energy storage systems, managing field operations, and creating safety and energy optimization algorithms. In recent years, Kiran has been instrumental in leading the data science team at LG Energy Solutions Vertech to design and deploy data products such as optimizing BESS energy performance, fade estimation products and integrated market bidding software, and design of predictive analytics algorithms aimed at improving BESS safety and availability.
