Mak oversees utility scale development at SolSystems while originating projects through greenfield as well as acquisition and bring those to the financing stage. In this capacity, Mak also provides technical and strategic leadership to the company while collaborating with industry partners and suppliers. Before joining SolSystems, Mak was responsible for leading Pine Gate renewables solar and storage development effort that consists of Project Siting, Grid Integration, Market Strategy as well as Energy Storage teams. Under Mak’s leadership. Pine Gate expanded its footprint to over 30 GW in 30 states and brought over 2 GW of projects online, some paired with non-Li Ion storage technology. Prior to Pine Gate, Mak also helds senior positions at AES and Apex Clean Energy.
Mak brings 20+ years of experience in project development, origination, power marketing, market design, transmission operations and planning. He also provides guidance on technical issues as well as emerging technologies (Energy Storage, Grid Enhancing Technologies etc.) while coming up with unique value propositions to its clients.
Prior to entering renewable space, Mak worked at Southwest Power Pool (One of the Regional Transmission Organizations) where he was responsible for designing their Day 2 energy market and running technical studies, planning and compliance groups. Mak has also spent 6+ years as planning engineer in Entergy’s Transmission group where he was involved in restoring electric grid after hurricane Katrina and Rita.
Mak holds BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and MBA from Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management.
