PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Karen Soares is an accomplished Chairperson, CEO, CIO, Organizational Visionary, and Aspiring Author, with over 20 years of combined experience in leadership, energy practices, technology, and project management, across all sectors. She is a results-oriented executive, strategic problem solver, and change contributor, with success in implementing plans to meet current and future needs.
She has been a business owner for more than 20 years. She is an SBA 8a certified graduate, Six Sigma and Sarbanes-Oxley certified professional and successful consultant, growing her company to a multi-million entity. She holds certificates from the FEMA Institute including Intro to Continuity of Operations; Continuity of Operations Awareness; and Emergency Management for Higher Education. She was named Top 50 Entrepreneur by Business Leader Magazine.
Karen is the Program Director for the Clean Energy Initiative (CEI), one of four strategic initiatives of HBCU Community Development Action Coalition (HBCU CDAC). The CEI addresses the barriers for low-to-moderate-income households to afford solar by securing the funding and manpower to increase solar awareness and accessibility.
She completed a six-year term as Chair of the Board of Trustees for Barber-Scotia College and currently serves as Co-Chair on the Board of Directors for the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), NREL IN2 Channel Partners Advisory Board, and the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) Residential Energy Efficiency and Beneficial Electrification Task Force.
Karen has key expertise in technology and training; managing cross- functional technology solutions with a niche in energy efficiency and deployment, implementation, broadband, and higher education.
She will complete her master’s degree in engineering law at the University of Illinois at Chicago and is looking forward to completing and sharing her new book, 100 Women in Energy: Their Profiles, Achievements and the New Opportunity.
