Lakin joined SEPA in August 2021. He manages research and content development related to the role of emerging energy technologies that can accelerate the transition to a carbon-free electric power system. Previously, he led SEPA’s Utility Transformation Challenge. Lakin collaborates with other researchers to help SEPA members plan for decarbonization and a smart transition to a carbon-free energy future.
Lakin has more than 16 years of experience in the energy industry. Before joining SEPA, he spent a decade working at The Cadmus Group, including as Principal of the Planning and Assessment team where he specialized in an array of demand side management analyses for long-term resource planning for a wide range of utility clients across the U.S. Before that, Lakin served as a Senior Planning Project Manager at the Energy Trust of Oregon.
Lakin has a BBA in International Business from the University of Georgia and an MS in Economics from Portland State University. He lives in Athens, Georgia with his wife and two sons.
