TechTalk: IEEE 2030.5 Communications to Inverters Over an AMI Network

Hawaiian Electric has tremendous need to enable all DER to be more interactive with the grid. Enabling telecommunications has proven unreliable using customer-owned internet connections or costly using a cellular connection. Hawaiian Electric has assessed a variety of methods to enhance the reliability of such connections, with a particular emphasis on communication using IEEE 2030.5 over AMI. This session will provide an assessment on the viability of such architecture and provide a preview into the future of Hawaiian Electric's DER telecommunication options.
