The Resource Adequacy of yesterday entails carrying enough capacity to meet peak plus reserves, with portfolios made up of baseload, mid-load, and peakers. As the energy transition unfolds and evolves, so will Resource Adequacy: Load-Serving Entities (LSEs) will be expected to develop a portfolio of resources that can serve load during all intervals while balancing intermittency plus reserves, with portfolios made up of clean, variable, duration-limited, and balancing resources. This presentation will review principles of resource adequacy for modern power systems, planning and policy considerations to support a reliable energy transition, and key steps to front-load a net zero future.
